About the Northern Illinois Food Bank:
Through the generosity of our many donors and volunteers, last year the NIFB provided food for the nearly 300,000 people living in poverty including 100.000 children and the 721,000 unemployed in northern Illinois.

NIFB distributed a record 35 million pounds of food through our network of 537 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and yourh feeding sites in 13 counties across northern Illinois.  This 28% increase over last year reflects the continuing increase in demand for food assistance.

According to the Independent Sector, the value of a volunteer was calculated at $21.36 an hour in 2010. According to Northern Illinois Food Bank, the value of a volunteer is priceless!  Without the 90,000 plus hours of volunteer and community service help each year, NIFB would be unable to distribute nearly 35 million pounds of food annually. This time translates into over $2.3 million in free labor!
