Although year 2012 saw little rainfall, communities in the Southwest Branch area are continually faced with stormwater management issues and additional regulatory requirements both from a water quantity and a water quality perspective. Recently, IEPA concluded the public comment period for the Post Development Stormwater Standards which will have far reaching impacts for communities throughout the state. An overview of what stormwater management impacts to anticipate and an update of the status of these standards from IEPA will be presented by Amy Walkenbach from IEPA.
Additionally, MWRD is taking the lead in the area of Green Infrastructure initiatives as a proactive approach to addressing water quality issues. David St. Pierre, Executive Director with MWRD will discuss the plans MWRD intends to unfold to encourage Green Infrastructure within the District and how communities should position themselves to partner with this initiative. Other hands on topics will include discussing the issue of property ownership for stormwater maintenance facilities in order to properly implement and enforce stormwater regulations and looking at practical BMP measures. Participants should come away with a better understanding of how to specifically approach Stormwater Management issues in their community. Ample time will be allotted for participants to ask specific questions of the presenters in order to get the most benefit from the seminar.
