Congestion pricing: good for residents and region!
Erin Aleman with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency For Planning (CMAP) will talk to us about the GO TO 2040 plan and specifically how congestion in the Chicago region costs drivers time, money, and patience. Building expressway capacity is critical to handling our traffic, but construction cannot relieve congestion completely, especially with forecasted growth in traffic over time. A new strategy is needed, one that gives drivers the option to avoid congestion.
Erin will present CMAP’s new analysis and website, www.cmap.illinois.gov/congestion-pricing/. If implemented on five new GO TO 2040 construction projects, express-lane drivers during the morning rush would reach their destinations 31 to 66 percent quicker, at a modest additional cost.
