Who: Any municipal, township, county or state public works or highway agency may enter. The Snowplow event will consist of two-person teams while the Loader event is a one-person competition.

What: The contest will recognize the skills required in the use of snowplowing equipment in order to promote awareness of the critical services provided by public works and highway agencies.

Both competitions will include:
1. Written test to determine knowledge of safe driving rules, CDL regulations and mechanical knowledge.
2. Driving test to determine the skills of the operators by maneuvering through an obstacle course.

The Snowplow Competition will also involve a disabled vehicle station, testing drivers on their skill in locating equipment defects.

Where:
The Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel& Convention Center, 1551 N. Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg, IL (adjacent to I-90 and Meacham)

The Front-end Loader competition will be held on

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Snowplow Trucks: Bring your own truck, limited to a standard configuration dump truck (no cab over). Minimum cab to axle distance is 80 inches, minimum wheelbase 145 inches, equipped
with a ten-foot plow (blade must be at least 10 feet wide, fixed or reversible). Salt spreader is not required. Trucks are available for teams from out of state that are participating in the competition. Please indicate this need on the application. A Front-end Loader will be available to assist with unloading and connecting plows if transported in the dump box to the competition.

Front-End Loader:
Several different makes of Front-end Loaders will be supplied for competitors to use. All participants must use one of these loaders in the competition, and these will be assigned randomly. A brief familiarization period is available prior to the competition.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of time constraints, we must limit participation to the first forty (40) Snowplow Team applicants and the first fifty (50) Loader driver entries. Your agency may register for one or both events.

Please submit the linked application(s) by PENDING DATE. The registration fee will also include the same-day registration to the
APWA Conference and Equipment Show for each team member, including lunch. You will be sent additional information regarding specific details of the competitions following receipt of your application.

Best Decorated Snowplow: Last years display of amazing artwork has convinced the Committee to stick their necks out again and judge the Best- Decorated Snowplow. The snowplows will only be judged on May 22, 2008.

There will not be a best-looking driver award!

Awards:

Traveling trophy to the first place winners; plaques and jackets to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants.

Mementos to all participants.

Food/Beverages:
Food and soft drinks will be available during

the conference and competition. Registration includes lunch

tickets for competitors.

As always, no alcoholic beverages are allowed.
