I am thrilled and honored to serve as President of this great chapter. The Chicago Metro Chapter, which is now 77 years old, brings a rich history and tradition of volunteer leadership. Our members benefit from this active leadership throughout the year.
We present over $30,000 in scholarships annually through the combined efforts of our Chapter and five Branches. I am proud of our dedication to the future leaders of our industry, helping to steer the best minds to public works.
We are a co sponsor with the Illinois Chapter of the Illinois Public Service Institute, now in its 7th year. This is a great learning opportunity for our membership, producing 50 new graduates each year. IPSI is a three-year training program which provides instruction expressly designed for public service professionals. The course is divided into three one-week sessions (one week each year) focusing on training in public service, personal growth and professional development. It is a great program, and is beginning to produce our new generation of Chapter Leadership.
We offer many networking and educational opportunities throughout the year, including six golf outings, multiple branch monthly meetings, numerous holiday parties and dozens of educational seminars, including the highlight of our agenda, the annual Chicago Metro Chapter Exposition and Trade Show, held each year during public works week.
We are particularly excited about the fact that the national Congress will return to Chicago in 2013 after a nineteen year hiatus. We are already hard at work planning for this great event. We can't wait to show the rest of the world what a great Public Works Kind of Town Chicago is.
