The Village of Roselle, Illinois (population 22,897) is seeking to fill full-time Laboratory Technician position in the Public Works Department, Wastewater Division.  Roselle is located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. 


This position serves as the laboratory technician performing chemical, physical, and biological tests in controlling and evaluating wastewater treatment.  Work includes sample collection, professional laboratory analysis of samples as prescribed by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA).  Samples include municipal, industrial wastewater, natural waterways, and sludge samples.  Operation, maintenance, reporting and documentation, typical of a professional laboratory.  Performs a variety of maintenance activities in support of the wastewater treatment plant operations.  This position exercises considerable on-site independence in determining how to accomplish assigned tasks and is responsible and accountable for completing work in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, policies, rules and regulations.  This position may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime and will be on-call to respond to emergencies, as needed.   


Graduation from an accredited college or university, with a bachelors and/or associates in biology, microbiology, chemistry, environmental science or two years of college level courses with emphasis in biology, microbiology, environmental science, chemistry, or related field highly desired.  Minimum of two (2) years’ of progressively responsible experience in working as a laboratory technician conducting a variety of tests in a physical chemical or biological laboratory or wastewater treatment plant operation; or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Possession of at least a Class IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate (as issued or recognized by the Illinois EPA), or receipt of one within twelve (12) months of commencing employment or transfer into position.  A current and valid Illinois motor vehicle operator's license.

The salary range is $58,130 to $78,073 and the starting salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
