The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois (12,590 – 2010 census) is a diverse home-rule municipality directly north of the City of Chicago consisting of 2.7 square miles, with a unique blend of residential, commercial, and manufacturing areas that is seeking an individual to serve as the Superintendent in the Public Works Department. The position is responsible for supervisory work, supervising and participating in projects regarding operations of the Public Works Department, and serves as the Department’s Safety Officer and Snow Plow Commander during the winter season. The position also assists foremen with the planning and direction of day to day operations, is responsible for the Village’s potable water system and acts as the responsible operator in charge.
The Superintendent plans, organizes, schedules and participates in work; provides direct supervision of the Forestry/Alleys Foreman, Streets/Utilities Foreman, and Parks/Buildings Foreman and oversees the day to day operation of the divisions; assists the Director and Assistant to the Director with strategic planning and implementation of initiatives; manages the Village's water system and serves as the responsible operator including oversight of the Village's water pumping station and all required testing; assists with the development of bids and requests for proposals; is responsible for the Village's snow removal and salting operations; sidewalk and curb removal and replacement program; and inspection of private construction projects within the Village; and responds to emergency situations including the scheduling of response crews, allocating necessary supplies and equipment, directing activities, supervising work, and operate equipment. Coordinates the Village’s Emergency Action Plan.
The Public Works Department has a FY 2021 budget of $17,825,883, of which $8,271,883 is operating and $9,554,000 is capital, which encompasses 27.5 FTEs. Each major division in Public Works is headed by a Foreman or comparable position with several full-time, part-time and seasonal staff members. A majority of employees in the Public Works Department are represented and are covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The Village is responsible for water distribution which includes a pumping station and water tower for potable water received from the City of Evanston. The Village is responsible for overseeing 75 lane miles of roads.
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D); supplemented by vocational courses in the trades; five to ten years’ experience in public works, including supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. A Class C certification for the operation of a water supply system is required and may be obtained within the first six months in the position. A valid Illinois Class B- Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes in the appropriate classification is required.
The Village of Lincolnwood offers a diverse and competitive benefits package for employees. The salary range for this position is $89,615.90 to $118,292.99. The regular hours for the position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional benefits
