SEWER & WATER MAINTENANCE WORKER I
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The City of Woodstock is accepting applications for full-time Sewer & Water Maintenance Worker I with the Public Works Department. Position performs manual labor and operates vehicles and equipment in the maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer collection and water distribution systems. The work is performed under the supervision of the Sewer & Water Maintenance Foreman and Superintendent. Position normally works Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with on-call hours on a rotating basis, possible emergency overtime after hours and weekends required.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Checks water mains for service leaks. Repairs sewer lines and broken water mains. Taps water mains for services. Installs new water mains.
Cleans sewer lines using sewer jet and rodding equipment. Cleans repairs and inspects sewer lift stations. Troubleshoots, replaces and reads water meters.
Repairs and replaces fire hydrants. Repairs and replaces manholes. Checks and repairs water booster stations.
Performs concrete finishing, pavement repair and landscape finishing tasks on utility excavation sites.
Complete J.U.L.I.E. Locate requests.
Responds to emergencies and calls for service both during and after hours including sanitary sewer calls, lift station problems, water main breaks, system leaks, etc.
Mows grass and weeds at booster and lift stations. Operates snow plow truck and dump truck. Assists other divisions as required.
Responds to citizen requests regarding sanitary sewer system and water system issues and concerns.
Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma or equivalent required.
One (1) to two (2) years’ infrastructure maintenance experience.
Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement and good driving record.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Those candidates that meet all other minimum qualifications but don’t have a CDL may be considered for this role with mandatory receipt of CDL within six (6) months of hire.
Starting Salary Rate: $17.31 per hour in accordance with current Union contract. Position includes eligibility for full benefits package of group health insurance, benefit time and IMRF retirement plan.
