Salary range is $50,960 - $81,467. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs water sample collection per the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) requirements. Performs water sample analysis for hardness, iron, lead/copper, chlorine, fluoride content. Responds to service calls for meter changes, leaks, water quality and high usage. Repairs, replaces and overhauls hydrants, valves, pumps and other components of the water distribution system. Maintains wells, pumping stations, water storage tanks, and associated electrical, mechanical and control equipment. Monitors and makes periodic adjustments as necessary to the computerized water control system. Performs record keeping and maintains files; supports and actively promotes the Village’s safety programs; assists with periodic safety inspections; identifies and corrects safety hazards. Responds to emergency calls for service on a call out basis and works outside normal business hours as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years mechanical repair and maintenance experience in the water distribution field.
Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of: Equipment safety policies and procedures; A variety of water system procedures and techniques; Machinery, equipment and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of water systems; and Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to maintenance and repair work.
Skill in: Reading and following work orders and instructions; Performing a variety of water maintenance tasks; Using hand and power tools; Following safety practices and recognize hazards; Carrying out work assignments as instructed; Maintaining accurate records; Communicating effectively orally and in writing, and Establishing and maintaining cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Class “C” Water Operators license and Valid Class “A” Commercials Driver’s License.

Work involves exposure to potential physical harm, dangerous machinery, hazardous materials and potentially infectious disease and performs moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, climb, balance, lift heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in office, operations facility and field settings.
