The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the position of seasonal Fire Hydrant Inspector working in the Engineering & Public Works Department during the summer months. This position will work 32 hours per week, Monday through Friday for approximately 8 to 10 weeks.
The Fire Hydrant Inspector will work under the general direction of the Water/Sewer Superintendent and will be responsible for inspecting fire hydrants for damages, lubricating and/or replacing hydrant caps, checking for obstructions around the fire hydrants, performing data entry and any other related work assignments.
The successful candidate will have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., able to open and remove fire hydrants caps. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and possess basic computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry, and ability to use an electronic tablet for outdoor work. Ability to use or learn ArcGIS and Firehouse are preferred. The candidate must be able to read and understand numbers on gauges and record the readings on work sheets. Individual must be able to read road maps or use GIS in order to locate fire hydrants within the village limits. Position requires working outdoors to include during adverse weather conditions, extensive walking, and the ability to work independently.
The starting wage is $16.41 per hour.
