The Village of Barrington is seeking a self-motivated individual with a positive work ethic to fill the position of Engineering Intern for the summer months and possibly for between-term periods, such as the winter holidays.
General Responsibilities: Working under the general direction of the Development Services Department, the candidate's duties and responsibilities include underground utility and road construction observation, annual road rating and municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) inspections, permit review, computer work, and general problem solving.
Position Requirements: The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Civil Engineering, or a closely aligned field. The successful candidate should also possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with contractors, consultants and residents. The ability to read plans and general survey knowledge and computer proficiency is also necessary.
A valid driver's license is required. Outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, is also required. The internship offer is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a criminal background check and a pre-employment medical exam, including a drug screen.
