The Village of Oak Brook Public Works Department is seeking candidates for a supervisory level position that will oversee its fleet and facility operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
The position predominately oversees and supervises several subordinate fleet and facilities employees by, among other things, planning, scheduling, assigning, observing and reviewing work, and evaluating the subordinates’ performance.
The position also reviews the work of fleet and facilities contractors; reviews policies and procedures and updates as needed; develops reports and analyzes data on activities; coordinates, monitors, and providestechnicalinputforassignedfleetandfacilitiesmaintenance,construction,andrepairprojectsand otherspecialprograms; responsible for inventory control and management; performs avariety of technical tasks relativetothemaintenanceandrepair ofvehicles andequipment,facilities andbuildings;andperformsrelatedworkasrequired.
The position requires strong verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical and computer skills; considerable knowledge of fleet and facility maintenance tasks; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with municipal officials, employees, contractors, vendors, and the general public; ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions; ability to promote a safe work environment, identify and address safety issues, and be familiar with regulatory standards; knowledge to develop standard operating procedures/guidelines (SOP/SOG) and job safety analysis documents.
The position uses his/her independent judgment and discretion to determine if work has been completed satisfactorily, and to determine if any actions are necessary in order to ensure that Department rules, regulations and guidelines are carried out in an efficient and effective manner. These actions may include, but are not limited to, the discipline, counseling and training of subordinate personnel. The position possesses the authority to unilaterally issue verbal and written reprimands, and has the authority to recommend disciplinary suspensions or discharges when deemed appropriate. The position also serves as the first step in the grievance process as outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and, as such, is responsible for using his/her discretion to determine the merits of the grievance and any potential resolution or adjustment of the same.
High school diploma or GED
Class B Illinois Commercial Drivers License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
ASE Certified or other acceptable technical certification(s)
HVAC Certified or other acceptable technical certification(s)
Knowledge in using Microsoft Office products, CFAWin software, inventory control, and/or other industry related work order/asset management software programs (e.g., PubWorks, City Works, Cartegraph)
Municipal experience preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
SELECTION: Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other verifications.
