The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the position of seasonal Fire Hydrant Inspector working in the Fire Department during the summer months. This position will work 32 hours per week, Monday through Friday for approximately 8 to 10 weeks.
The person in this position will work under the general direction of the Deputy Fire Chief and will be responsible for inspecting fire hydrants for damage, replacing hydrant caps, checking for obstructions around the fire hydrants, performing data entry and other related tasks as assigned.
The successful candidate will have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., able to open fire hydrants and remove frozen hydrant caps. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, and possess basic computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry. The candidate must be able to read and understand numbers on gauges and record the readings on work sheets.Individual must be able to read road maps in order to locate fire hydrants within the village limits. Position requires working outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, and extensive walking.
Starting Hourly Wage Rate:
The starting wage is $16.01 per hour.
