The Village of Wilmette is seeking a self-motivated individual with positive work ethics to fill the position of Water Management Intern for the summer months. This position will work 15 to 20 hours per week to include some weekend shifts for a 12 to 14 week period.
The person in this position works under the general direction of the Water Management Chemist assisting in performing a variety of laboratory tasks related to QPCR analysis of beach water samples. Specific job tasks include: sampling, filtration of water samples, DNA extraction, preparing reagents, running a thermocycler, data entry and other related tasks.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in a Chemistry, Biology or a related program and have an interest in pursuing a career in Science. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and be detailed-orientated. Knowledge of DNA testing, Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
The hourly wage is $13.50 per hour.
