SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER
DEVELOPMENT SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The Village of Orland Park a dynamic and progressive community of approximately 60,000 residents seeks a Senior
Project Engineer to provide project management support for projects assigned to the Engineering Division of our
Development Service Department. With 39 active development projects, $200 million in road improvement projects
with IDOT and Cook County, 159th street widening, 147th and Ravinia Roundabout, downtown development,
redevelopments, multiple residential projects, bike paths and more we seek an Engineer who can handle a fast pace
and manage multiple priorities.
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the review and implementation of development plans in accordance with
village code. As well as, assists the building division in the review and approval of individual grading plans. Tracks,
monitors and inspects various projects to ensure Village compliance and acceptance. As part of the development
process this position will review and coordinate project bonds or letters of credit.
This position is responsible for the coordination and communication between various governmental entities, permitting
agencies and engineering companies. This position assists in the formulation and implementation of the Village’s 5
year Capital Improvement Program. Under administrative direction, work performed is of considerable difficulty and is
reviewed as to progress and conformance to established standards.
Schedules, coordinates and facilitates pre-construction meetings for development or capital improvement
projects. Reviews and discusses work progress and scheduling with contractors, consultants and subordinates and
makes adjustments as needed. Identifies issues or problems associated with various projects/plans and provides clear
and concise direction on how to resolve.
This position develops and maintains both design and construction schedules and budgets for various infrastructure
projects. Ensures projects are completed on-time and within budget.
Completion of bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and
Technology, Inc. (ABET) accredited program is required. Seven years of progressively responsible related engineering
experience is also required. Municipal experience is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is needed, Autocad and
other related design program knowledge a plus. Must be a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Illinois or
have the ability to and obtain within six months of hire.
Strong project management skills along with thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering,
transportation, and storm water management and design, planning, and site development are required. The ability to
prepare plans and reports; establish and maintain operational records and to research and analyze information and
make recommendations based upon such analysis is also needed. Must be able to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with individuals and groups; meet with residents, outside agencies, and other sources as
needed. The ability to maintain confidential information; work independently; work within time constraints and meet
deadlines, the ability to provide verbal and written instructions to others; communicate effectively, both verbally and in
writing; maintain professionalism, objectivity, and to be tactful and courteous in stressful situations; and the ability to
plan, coordinate and review the work of others are also required.
Annual salary $79,000-$87,000 depending on qualifications. This full-time position is eligible for the Village of Orland
Park’s comprehensive employee benefits program which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and an
employee wellness program. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided
along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan with options through Nationwide, ICMA-RC, Mass Mutual, or AXA
