The Department of Community Development is seeking a qualified Staff Engineer to ensure sound engineering practices and compliance with all State and Village codes, ordinances and requirements for proposed new construction by reviewing engineering plans and recommending approval or disapproval to the Village.
Community Development is responsible for the review and approval of design drawings for site developments, which include streets, water mains, sanitary and storm sewer systems, storm water management and related improvements, as well as the inspection of new public improvements and private water services, sewer services, parking lots and various other private improvements.
Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the Staff Engineer will provide a variety of engineering duties, including review of design plans for residential, commercial and industrial improvement, both public and private, including: storm and sanitary sewers; water distribution mains; street and parking lot pavement; curb and gutter; sidewalk, and storm water detention basins. For plans and permits that are not approved, the Staff Engineer notifies the applicant and provides information pertaining to the modifications that are required. Reviews applications for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District permits to ensure compliance with established requirements. The review process includes verifying hydraulic and hydrology calculations for storm water management requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and two years of professional Civil Engineering experience in design or review of construction plans and specifications, or two years of professional Civil Engineering experience in construction field inspection. Possession of a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License and a safe driving record. Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Illinois is highly desired. Considerable knowledge in the use of Microsoft applications, as well as MicroStation. Knowledge of GIS and Accela permit software a plus. Ability to work independently with minimal direction, and ability to work outside in varying weather conditions.
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hrs/wk STARTING COMPENSATION: 72,758 annually
