Alan Phelps and Mark Dachsteiner, with Baxter & Woodman, traveled with Engineers Without Borders to Bungoma County in Kenya in March 2017 to implement a water treatment system which was designed from Summer to Winter 2016. The project consisted of restoring safe drinking water quality to a borehole which supplies Wema Children's Centre and Highway Academy, an orphanage and private school for K-12, and the greater Bukembe Village area. The project had no shortage of challenges, spanning from uncertain technical information, to communication, to technical design and resource availability, to timing, to financial challenges, all the way up to the week of departure. Please spend your lunch hour listening to how these challenges were overcome, how eventually a successful implementation came about, and how you and your company can get involved in work like this through Engineers Without Borders, right here in Chicago.
